Big Brother Watch: Team claims $50,000 for decoding shredded messages

A week ago, I added a desktop app provided by Norton, the folks whose software allegedly protects me and my computer from spyware and virus and hacks ("Oh my!" echos the voice of Judy Garland).  The app, Cybercrime Index, displays a global risk level number plus an RSS feed of security related trends and news items.  So far, I've encountered no problems running it, and it has alerted me to a few eyeopeners, such as the story about how the British government has been using a flaw in iTunes for surveillance of the personal computer files and activities of  common citizens.

And now, the latest item concerns the winners of a DARPA "contest" to reconstruct shredded documents.  The question now arises, ash tray, fireplace, BBQ grille, or go back to chewing, swallowing, and crapping all those evil seditious notes we subversives are so fondly addicted to cloak and daggering back and forth amongst ourselves and our fellow travellers?
