Political Action & Discussion Forum for America's Socialist Party
Just under a week ago I was looking around the internet for information on Blogsites. I was also looking for socialist websites. You can not believe how relieved I was to find that there was a site that was both. I have wanted to discuss the various aspects of socialism with like minded people. I have wanted to help move the theory from theory to practice and I have spent many years "preaching" the benefits of socialism... The problem is simply that preaching alienates many people who would otherwise be willing to join the cause.
We are faced with a population that has been indoctrinated to the capitalist lifestyle from an early age. We ourselves have been indoctrinated, but we have seen beyond the curtain and witnessed the possibilities. We have overcome the stigma that has been associated with Communism/Socialism and found that for greater humanitarian progress the socialist ideal fits our individual ideology.
Our problem is and has been that society in the United States has fostered in the socialist a fear of association. We are afraid that if we assemble and "get on the same page" the greater powers will seek to put an end to our associations. That we will be arrested, corralled, and demonized to the population by the Corporate interests, police and media. The Socialist has seen other groups (Religious cults, Militias, and Activist associations) suppressed and broken. We see in current events the #Occupy Movement being attacked by police forces, minimised by the media and our fears are reinforced.
This remains our biggest problem and one that will keep the socialist party from gaining strength. Until we overcome our own fears of reprisal from the very system that we hope to change the socialist can not prosper. Solidarity and Unity are hallmark slogans of the socialist party yet we are more factious today than we have ever been. There seems to be many opinions but no consensus as to where our party should go or even where it has come from. For this reason I would ask that we begin today to engage in a serious dialog about what we believe and what we want communally from our government.
In 1848 Karl Marx and Fredrick Engels penned the Communist Manifesto at that time it was an enumeration of the problems faced by the proletariat and the beliefs, demands and expectations of goverment by the emerging communist party. The years have passed and Socialism has evolved, Communism has evolved yet our documents have not. Ask yourself why. It is now more than ever before, imperative that we come up with not just a manifesto for the socialists in our individual states but a universal manifesto that updates the one written in 1848. One that ennumerates our expectations of government, our demands for equality and our beliefs. It is time to report the problems the proletariat of our time faces and what we intend to do.
With all that said in a very long winded diatribe about our party I leave you all with this one final thought. The people of the United States need us to pull it together and work as one party dedicated to the good of all of our society. Should we fail the concequences will be catastrophic not just for the United States but for the entire human civilization. The socialist party is our last best hope.
Educate, Empower, Unite!!!

Comment by Timothy Platt on December 23, 2011 at 3:48pm Hey Pat. You have several very good subject embedded in this post. And, it sound like you have several more. Focus separate blog entries on these issues. And, schedule them for about 1 week apart. That way you can have an ongoing blog that people can anticipate on a regular basis. And, make sure to add your search terms in the tag line so your blogs will be found by people searching specific issues. My most important piece of advice - Keep it fun. Don't overdo yourself to the point that you get worn out. An old college trick is to keep the issue narrowly focused - then go into detail. Then have a separate blog for each variation of the issue. I look forward to reading more of your work.
